Mentoring

On a surface level, our mentoring programs are built around having fun, but with deeper intentions to educate and achieve goals. We value the importance of building relationships with young people and never underestimate the value of their voice to empower them to reach their full potential. Regular one-on-one sessions are built around a tailored program that highlights key focuses, such as developing confidence, social skills, relationship building, emotion regulation and conflict resolution. They are also an outlet for fun and de-stressing, to encourage positive wellbeing.

Our mentoring team is made up of trauma-informed, positive role models that are specially-trained to help youth develop skills and work towards their goals through a strength-based approach. We value the importance of building relationships with young people and do so through creating a safe, friendly, fun, supportive and comfortable environment.

Specialised programs

At Big Leap, we are passionate about our specialised programs. We believe it is important to focus on these areas and we pride ourselves on the positive outcomes that can be achieved through doing so.

This service involves a support worker attending the school environment to provide one-on-one assistance in the classroom. It is aimed to improve positive school engagement, provide extra academic support and encourage strategies for relationship building with peers.

School-Based Support

Promoting cultural identity is an important value at Big Leap. We value diversity and endeavour to link young people with culturally-similar role models and engage in activities that help youth feel connected to their roots.

Transition from care

Aimed towards 15-17 year olds, this program focuses on assisting young adults with transitioning towards adulthood and independent living. We aim to equip them with necessary life skills such as cooking, cleaning, budgeting finances, job applications, booking appointments and accessing community support.
